Hoover police chief expresses disappointment over Carlee Russell’s sentence
Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis expressed disappointment over the lack of jail time given to Carlee Russell for lying about being abducted in 2023. Russell, a nursing student who disappeared for two days in Hoover last summer, pleaded guilty to filing a false police report and falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement. She received a six-month suspended jail sentence, probation for a year, $18,000 in restitution to the city of Hoover, and 100 hours of community service.
