It’s Time for Edna’s Events Season!

The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA) is known for producing meaningful events showcasing excellence in training for aspiring artists in visual and performing arts. This season, the college has a packed calendar with eight events, including a dancehall musical, music recitals, a visual arts exhibition, a student dance showcase, and workshops aimed at capacity-building. Some of the highlighted events include the School of Drama dancehall musical, the School of Visual Arts & Materials and Meanings exhibition, and the School of Music Week of Concerts dubbed Purple Reign.

The School of Drama dancehall musical is set to open on April 5 for a three-day run, break on April 7, and re-open on April 12 until 14. The School of Visual Arts & Materials and Meanings exhibition will open on April 9. The School of Music Week of Concerts, Purple Reign, will close with an Honours Recital concert on April 13 featuring the top performing students for the academic year. Other events include a Literature on Stage workshop, a Danceworks showcase under the theme ‘Luminosity,’ an Ecojam environmental awareness day, and a jazz celebration concert called Jamrock Jazz at The Summit.

The theme for this season at EMCVPA is centered around promoting self-expression through Jamaican/Caribbean culture, with the goal of nurturing love and passion for theatre and the visual and performing arts. The college aims to show that the arts are not only enjoyable but also therapeutic and a viable professional path with long-term income potential. Coleen Douglas, the director of Marketing and Communications at EMCVPA, expressed that the students and staff have always delivered high-quality education and entertainment, and this season is no exception. The events are designed to highlight the diverse Jamaican culture and celebrate the transformative work of the Area Youth Foundation.

The events at EMCVPA offer a mix of art-fused activities and entertainment in Kingston for the month of April.
