Syracuse Police search for 5-year-old’s body in woods, mother facing charges for alleged fatal assault

Syracuse Police are on a mission to find the remains of 5-year-old Nefertiti Harris, who was allegedly beaten to death by her mother, 29-year-old Latasha Mott. The search is focused on the woods and fields behind an apartment building on Salt Springs Road. The search has continued into the night with the use of rakes and buckets, as well as a light to aid the investigation in the darkness. A medical examiner from Onondaga County has been on the scene to assist in the investigation. The incident in which Harris was allegedly beaten by her mother occurred in January. Court
